PLANNING PERMISSION
St James’s Road, Croydon
27/11/2024
We’re delighted to share that our scheme for the redevelopment of the former pub site on St. James’s Road, East Croydon, has been allowed at appeal. This paves the way for the transformation of a neglected corner, currently a magnet for anti-social behaviour, into a vibrant, residentially-led development.
Our approval includes a replacement pub/restaurant at street level to provide a focal point for the local community and activate the frontage, 23 new apartments, making a valuable contribution to local housing needs, a high-quality building with a distinctive and contextual design that lives up to its prominent corner position.
We set out to enhance the character of the area, with attention paid to getting the scale, materials and detailing right. While the delays caused by the initial refusal remain regrettable, we’re encouraged by the Planning Inspectorate’s swift and decisive handling of the appeal.
We’re now looking forward to delivering this much-needed development, ensuring that the site serves the needs of local residents.
OFFICE TRIP 2024
Annual Office Trip: Bristol
12/11/2024
We had a fantastic, fun-filled day in Bristol for our annual office trip!
Our adventure began with a visit to St Mary Redcliffe Church, renowned as one of the finest parish churches in the country and a masterpiece of Gothic architecture. Next, we enjoyed a fascinating tour of the historic Bristol Old Vic theatre, the oldest continuously operating theatre in the UK. During the tour, we explored the recently renovated foyer, walked on stage, ventured backstage, and climbed up to the original Georgian roof space to marvel at the oldest Thunder Run in the country—a thrilling piece of theatrical history.
After a quick stop at the Harbourside food market, we were fortunate to stumble upon the thought-provoking and stunning Gaia exhibition while visiting Bristol Cathedral. From there, we headed to Clifton for a scenic walk across Brunel’s iconic suspension bridge, taking in the panoramic views and appreciating the engineering brilliance of this world-famous landmark.
We wrapped up the day with a delicious team dinner at a charming Italian restaurant, the perfect ending to a day filled with culture, history, and great camaraderie!

SUMMER DAY OUT 2024
Annual Summer day out: Cambridge
14/08/2024
This year we ventured to the beautiful City of Cambridge for our annual team trip. Our day started with a peaceful punt along the college ‘backs’, featuring homemade picnics and prosecco, courtesy of Studio Manager, Abbé. Followed by an al fresco lunch in the picturesque garden of The Punter Pub. We visited brilliant local architecture including the Magdalene College Library and King’s College Chapel and finished the day off with a couple of canal-side beers in the sunshine. A fantastic day all around!

PLANNING CONSENT
Stirling Close, Streatham
25/06/24
We have just received full planning consent to transform a brownfield site with nine much-needed high-quality family homes in Streatham.
Sensitive to surrounding suburban grain and scale we have divided the terrace into three groups of three dwellings. To lend a sense of movement and dynamism to the street-scene we have gently curved these groupings in plan, and have added distinctive porches and dormers which we feel lend just the right amount of decorative interest. We have carefully assembled a palette of vernacular natural materials and combined these with low-key and minimalist detailing to give the scheme both a timeless as well as contemporary quality so ensuring that it will weather and bed into the neighbourhood.

PLANNING SUBMITTED
Mayford Place, Wandsworth
12/07/2024
We have just submitted planning for 3 mews houses to replace 17 garages in the Nightingale Triangle.
Following a constructive pre-application meeting with LB Wandsworth on this challenging back-land site, we have developed plans for three carefully considered, highly sustainable and picturesque family homes, arranged around a secluded courtyard integrating an existing mature tree and adding further shrubbery and planting.
It has been a pleasure working alongside such a fantastic team & we look forward to a positive outcome.
Read more about the project here.
PLANNING CONSENT
Grove Park, Chiswick
31/05/2024
We recently gained planning consent for a rear and second-floor extension in leafy Grove Park, Chiswick. Currently, this mid-terraced Edwardian house is rather cramped, and being north-facing, is rather lacking in natural light. The rear and side return extension will allow the opening out of the darkest area of the house, allowing more space for a properly functional kitchen and a new area for dining and more abundant natural light. The main feature of the extension will be an almost square pivoting door, allowing the light in and making the garden seem more like a room connected to the rest of the house.

PLATT PACKA-HUS
The Davidson Prize 2024
27/03/2024
The recent availability of the IKEA site in Tottenham presents the London Borough of Enfield with an opportunity to tackle its housing needs in an area earmarked for growth and increased infrastructure. Our proposal catalogues the existing steel building, dismantles it and transforms it into a series of homes of varying sizes, from young-family homes with space to grow to smaller dwellings for young professionals, supporting a vibrant and diverse community in real need of places to live.
THE DAVIDSON PRIZE
Platt Packa-Hus Longlisted
27/03/2024
There's a housing crisis; the problem is evident but solutions are few. With a National Housing Federation poll revealing that seven in ten Londoners have struggled to find decent housing, action is imperative. PLATT-PACKA HUS addresses this gap by mining and reusing the untapped potential of materials locked in unused buildings to create attractive, affordable, and sustainable homes.
We were delighted to have been longlisted for this award.
Also featured in the Architects Journal.
PLANNING CONSENT
Regent’s Park Road, Finchley
30/01/2024
We are delighted and proud to have received a delegated planning consent from the London Borough of Barnet for a multi-unit residential site in Finchley. Our proposals will replace a very ordinary 1930s house with an apartment building that makes far better use of a prominent townscape location. Our design plays on a sense of elegance and understated grandeur, with distinctive lines and a dynamic form, making a particular feature of the corner.

PASSIVHAUS
Passivhaus Certified Designer: Sarah Bass
11/08/2023
Completing the PHPP Passivhaus course has given Sarah a comprehensive understanding of the principles and techniques essential for building design that balances comfort and sustainability and minimises energy consumption.
Passivhaus is a vitally important method for driving down emissions caused by unsustainably heating and cooling buildings. This is especially important given that the construction sector makes a costly 35% contribution to global energy usage and carbon emissions and the demand for new housing in the UK remains undimmed. Sarah's Passivhaus qualification enables her to play a studio-wide role ensuring that the designs we bring forward are always exemplary and can achieve certification wherever the circumstances allow.

PLANNING CONSENT
Palmerston Road, Essex
31/07/2023
We're delighted to have received planning consent for a pair of five bedroom semi-detached houses in Buckhurst Hill, Essex. These two houses are influenced by the neighbouring locally listed Victorian semi-detached houses, but we have simplified and modernised details making a for a more contemporary feel while also remaining sympathetic to the older villas. The materials palette and massing form directly complement the neighbours. The proposals were approved by Epping Forest District Council under delegated powers - We look forward to seeing these come to life in the next phase of the project.

CONSERVATION
RIBA Conservation Registrant: Giles Heather
11/07/2023
The RIBA Conservation Training Course provided a comprehensive introduction to the background, development and current philosophies of building conservation and how those are embedded in statute. It involved interactive tasks and discussion centred on actual examples that drew out the presenter's particular expertise and allowed participants to share their technical experience. Giles is now a Conservation Registrant, which, although not an accredited status, signals that, as a studio, we are aware of the issues affecting intervening and adding to heritage buildings and that we have an understanding of and sympathy for the technical and aesthetic insights historic, traditional and vernacular architecture can offer contemporary practice.
PRINCIPAL DESIGNER
RIBA Accredited Principal Designer CDM & Building Safety Act course: Ruairí Boyle
16/06/23
The course; developed and organised by the RIBA, looked at the evolving role of the Principal Designer under CDM2015 and the upcoming major changes in the Building Safety Act. Attending this accredited course demonstrates the awareness and capability of the practice to carry out the role and was led by Paul Bussey and Tony Putsman. Attended over 7 weeks from March – May, the course provided a comprehensive understanding of the regulations, context, and Design Risk Management practicalities to dutifully carry out the PD role. This course is the first step in joining the upcoming RIBA Principal Designers Register.
